Just as MAYA helps clients improve their products, Dutch helps us improve our business processes.
He is a registered architect in both Pennsylvania and New York. He practiced architecture for more than 17 years, and was most recently vice president at EDGE Studio, one of the Pittsburgh region’s most respected and creative architectural practices. Along the way, he became fascinated with what sets great creative firms apart operationally and how business can use design thinking as a differentiator. His continued interest in the business of design led to his acceptance as a fellow of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh, completing executive seminars in 2003 and 2004.
Dutch is passionate about operations and focuses on how MAYA can optimize systems without constraining creativity.
His passion for leading organizations has extended into the community. Dutch was past president and board member of the Friendship Preservation Group in the architecturally rich Friendship area of Pittsburgh. He was also past president and board member of PCTV (Pittsburgh Community Television) and the director of Carnegie Mellon University’s “Our Town” inner city at-risk youth design program. He is currently on the Advisory Board of Dance Alloy Theater and the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects, Pittsburgh chapter.
Dutch’s degree in architecture is from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), where he is an adjunct associate professor in the School of Architecture. He also studied at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he lived and worked.
His architectural work has been published extensively in the Pittsburgh area and in such national publications as Dwell, Architectural Record, and Metropolitan Home. He has exhibited his work at the Heinz Architectural Center and Florida Atlantic University. His video and installation work has been shown at Pittsburgh’s Mattress Factory and at CMU’s Frame Gallery.
