Jeremy Koempel - Director of Advanced Development, Interstacks

As Director of Advanced Development, Jeremy leads the development of Interstacks, a MAYA research project. Interstacks is a suite of inexpensive hardware modules that enable end-users to create applications from the information and functionality of existing devices. Jeremy is working to evolve Interstacks from an Internal MAYA project into a profitable business. His roles include manager of Interstacks product development, lead designer, and head of Interstacks business development.

Jeremy is director of Interstacks – a MAYA research product that connects the functionality and information of disparate hardware devices.

Jeremy is also one of our most respected and talented visual designers. Prior to his role as Director of Advanced Development, he worked on a wide variety of important projects, including those for Philips, Panasonic, the National Academy of Sciences, and Whirlpool. He helped to design and build an interactive demo for LightFair International to demonstrate an innovative wireless lighting control system. He was also the project manager and lead designer on innovative work centered on the future of in-car information and entertainment systems. This work led to the filing of numerous patents by our client. For another client, Jeremy designed and implemented a demo Web interface in which users could discover and interact with USA statistical data. His visual design work also includes interface design for a number of consumer electronics devices.

Jeremy thrives on leveraging visual design to amplify information, enhance usability, and create a meaningful user experience. He also enjoys exploring ways to make things work, serving regularly as one of our hardware and software prototype developers.

Before coming to MAYA, Jeremy contracted for a diverse group of clients on interface, website, and print design. Through the years, his personal website smallTransport.com has been recognized for its excellence and has served as a creative outlet. He is an expert in the domain of web standards design and implementation.

In addition to being a skilled visual designer, a bit of an engineer, and a design thinker, Jeremy is a musician who enjoys writing and recording his own material. He has a degree in violin performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
