Information Architecture and the Emergent Properties of Cyberspace

Abstract: Some say the science of complex systems had to await the advent of computers. If this is true, these sciences owe an intellectual debt to the designers of sophisticated information technologies. Can systems science repay this debt by helping engineers understand the system-level implications of basic architectural design decisions?
