A few book notes and then onto the top five…
If you like the smell of paint, walking along the Seine and a touch of impressionist mystery, read The Swan Thieves Though not The Historian in terms of scope or vampire fun, she can definitely write.

I’m afraid I wasn’t all that wrapped up in Let The Great World Spin. I expected something as powerful as the Man on Wire film which was stunning. It was well written but didn’t drag me in like others in the “New York as character in the story” genre.

The Hunger Games was a quick read (warning it is book one of three and only two are out so far). Aimed at young readers, it can be a bit basic at times, but it’s worth a read if you like “dystopian death race boy meets girl and the both have to kill each other to survive” stories.

——————Top Five—————
1. We drove around the South Side with one of these cameras sticking up out of the back seat of our car a few years ago and it was one of the most trippy video clips ever (particularly when going over a classic Pittsburgh bridge). Now CNN has a head mounted 360 cam so you can pan around while watching the video clip. While not new technology, it’s really pretty damn cool to see it finally in use and hints at what will be expected in the future (ahh, finally another way to use more hard drive space).

2. Inflatable Hospitals in Haiti.

Related, containers to clinics.

Also related, crisis commons.

3. If you’re interested in the state of education in America, keep an eye out for Waiting for Superman It just premiered at Sundance. The title is based on a story from Geoffrey Canada. If you haven’t read his book or heard the This American Life episode about him, you should. Looks like Bill Strickland will also be featured which will be a must see as well.

4. Beautifully done tribute to his father.

5. Sans crap.

CMYK embroidery…

A noble goal, make an infographic of every “This American Life” episode.

I wonder what else we could predict?

Did I say that privacy was dead?

Classic. Apparently they are planning on doing a remake of this ill fated pilot.

Zoomable paper map.

Let’s light her on fire for science. Or try.

Open access public workshop, now if it only had a bar so you could drink and use power tools!

Transparency comes to real estate.

One step closer to life-caching.

I am here just premiered at Sundance.

The Zen humidifier.

Isn’t it just about time for another LEGO short film?

Music is a form whose meaning depends upon its violation.

I’m guessing this link will be dead soon, but go find it somewhere, it is worth it. Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris sing Hallelujah for Haiti…
